About Buddhism

The founder of Buddhism was Buddha Shakyamuni who lived and taught in India some two and a half thousand years ago.

The Buddhist way of life means living a life of inner and outer peace, practicing loving kindness and developing wisdom.   This way of life is just as relevant and possible today as it was in ancient India.  Buddha explained that all our problems and suffering arise from negative states of mind, and that all our happiness and good fortune arise from peaceful and positive states of mind. Although it often seems that our states of mind are created by external situations, Buddha taught us to examine this and to look deeply within our own minds.

He taught methods for gradually overcoming our negative minds such as anger, jealousy and anxiety, and  how to develop our positive minds such as love, compassion and wisdom. Through practicing these methods we can come to know and experience more and more inner peace and happiness.  Through our increasing our own inner peace, we can also have a positive and direct effect upon our loved ones, friends and eventually all the others with whom we come in contact.

These methods work for anyone, in any country, in any age. We don't need to become a Buddhist to receive the benefits of engaging in these simple and practical methods.  Once we have gained experience of them for ourselves we can pass them on to others, even through our example, so they too can enjoy the same benefits.
